Christians of Jordan and the Levant Deep Roots in the Heart of the Homeland
Author: الأستاذ الدكتور أمجد الفاهوم

On this land that is unlike any other, where the scent of the earth mixes with the prayers of passersby spanning thousands of years, the Christians of the Levant were never mere transient guests nor a page on the margins of history, but were among the first to plow the soil, build homes, carry forward crafts, and preserve memories. They were here before borders were drawn, before names were written, and before maps were partitioned. Here, their identity has taken root like an olive tree in rock, unshakable by storms and unchanged by the seasons.

In Jordan, the presence of Christians is not measured by their number, but by the depth of their impact. They are sons of this soil like others, they drink its water, take pride in its skies, and stand in reverence before its mountains, plains, and ancient cities. Their belonging was never merely a slogan to be raised, but a life lived, a responsibility fulfilled, and a belief that the homeland is not just a place we live in, but a spirit that dwells within us.

Their identity is rooted because they saw the land not as a temporary possession, but as a sacred covenant. From the plains of Madaba to the mountains of Al-Salt, from the villages of Karak to the old alleys of Amman, they left their mark in the stones, in schools, in hospitals, in fields, and in people's memories. They were teachers when the nation needed knowledge, doctors when it needed mercy, soldiers when it needed protection, farmers when it needed patience, and artists when it needed beauty.

Their love for Jordan was inseparable from their love for the Levant. They are the children of an ancient civilization that carried the message of love since the earliest centuries, teaching them that humanity comes before religion, and dignity before any allegiance. Therefore, they did not live in isolation, nor did they close off, but were an active part of society's fabric, sharing in joys and sorrows, building with others, dreaming with others, and defending the homeland as one defends his home and memories.

In their hearts, Jordan is not merely a stop but a beautiful destiny. It is the story that begins with childhood in schools, grows with responsibility at work, and ages with memories in old homes. It is the homeland that cannot be summarized in a speech, nor reduced to a picture, but is lived every morning, in every prayer, and in every genuine deed.

The Christians of Jordan were never on the sidelines of the homeland, but in its heart. They never sought privilege, nor waited for recognition, for their roots are deeper than any question, and their love for the land more genuine than any speech. They are witnesses that the homeland is not built on slogans, but on weary hands, believing hearts, and faces that know the meaning of belonging.

Here, in this East that taught the world the meaning of the soul, the Christians of Jordan stand steadfast, not as a minority seeking a place, but as citizens who know that the land that embraced their fathers will embrace their children. They carry Jordan in their hearts as it carries them in its name, history, and future, proving every day that rooting in the homeland is not a matter of religion or number, but of a love that never ends.
