Khaberni - Professor Tatiana Shilova, a specialist in medicine and eye surgery, warned against wearing colored contact lenses without medical supervision, as it can cause a corneal ulcer and permanent vision loss.
According to her, it is essential to buy cosmetic contact lenses after consulting a specialist in a specialized optical store, not from the market. Otherwise, a person may suffer a mechanical injury to the eye and damage to the corneal epithelium.
She says: "When using unsuitable lenses, a person may initially feel discomfort, dryness, redness, and impaired vision in the evening. But the condition quickly worsens clinically, starting with erosion, followed by infectious keratitis, corneal ulcer, scarring, and permanent vision loss. In some cases, long-term treatment and surgery may be required."
According to her, poor-quality products may contain hazardous components that cause allergic reactions. Small particles, like dust and lint, which may sometimes be present in the solution or on the lens itself, pose a particular risk. These particles can cause mechanical damage if they touch the eye.
