Khaberni - The Syrian Civil Defense announced, in a statement on Sunday evening, the recovery of the bodies of 4 people from a deep pit in the city of Jableh in Latakia governorate, northwest Syria.
The Civil Defense said, "The teams of the Syrian Civil Defense in the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management, managed to recover the bodies of four young men from inside a deep pit in the city of Jableh."
He added that the body recovery process took place amidst significant difficulties due to the depth of the pit and the complexity of its horizontal and vertical extension.
The Civil Defense in its statement referred to the bodies being transferred to the forensic medicine in Jableh.
According to the same statement, the Civil Defense mentioned that statements from the locals indicate that the young men were searching for artifacts at the site and had tried to pump water from a well inside the pit, which led to them losing consciousness due to exhaust emissions from the water pump engine, resulting in their suffocation.
