Widespread sharing of an old image
Social media platforms have seen intensive circulation of an image documenting a woman setting fire to her children's cradle, accompanied by an emotional comment attributed to her, stating that she waited long beside the cradle and spent sleepless nights, but her children left her and did not keep in touch or inquire about her.
The image sparked a wave of sympathy and comments that discussed family relationships and the duties of children towards their parents, and prompted many to talk about the importance of caring for parents and not forgetting them.
The truth behind the picture
It was revealed through verification that the image is not recent, but originally dates back to 2019, and that the circulated comment with it is incorrect.
Specialized pages in digital content verification in Iraq contacted the photographer "Karzan Rasheed" who took the original picture, where he explained that the woman burned the cradle because her children had grown up and she would not give birth again due to her advanced age, not because they abandoned her as the posts suggested.
