Khaberni - Channel 13 of Israel revealed on Sunday that the prison services had begun - in recent days - special preparations to implement the death penalty against Palestinian prisoners accused by Israel of executing or planning attacks, which was approved at the first reading in the Israeli Knesset.
According to the channel, the plan includes the creation of a dedicated complex for carrying out death sentences, establishing necessary procedures, training staff, and learning from the experiences of countries that implement similar penalties.
The plan - which is being developed within the prison service - refers to the establishment of a separate complex known internally as the "Israeli Green Corridor".
According to the report, the execution will be carried out by hanging, performed by three prison guards who will press the operation button simultaneously. It was also decided that the teams would be formed on a voluntary basis only, and that the guards would undergo specialized training.
The channel cited informed Israeli sources saying that the death sentences would be executed against the prisoners within 90 days from the date of the final judgment.
The sources clarified that the law would first apply to elite members of the Hamas movement who participated in the attack on October 7, 2023, and then later include prisoners convicted of committing serious attacks in the West Bank.
As part of these preparations, the channel revealed that a delegation from the Israeli Prison Service is expected to travel soon to a country in East Asia to study the legal and regulatory aspects of implementing the punishment.
A few days ago, 12 experts from the United Nations urged Israel to withdraw the bill for executing the death penalty on "terrorist acts", confirming that Israeli military law in the occupied territories violates international law.
They said the proposed law imposes the death penalty in the West Bank for acts that result in death, even if unintentional, indicating that it "represents a violation of the right to life and constitutes discrimination against Palestinians".
The proposed law stipulates that "anyone who causes - intentionally or unintentionally - the death of an Israeli citizen for reasons of racism or hostility towards a certain group, with the intention to harm the State of Israel and the Jewish people in their land, shall be subject to the death penalty".
In this formulation, Israel can apply the death penalty on any Palestinian who kills an Israeli, but under no circumstances can it be applied to an Israeli killing a Palestinian.
