Khaberni - The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Sunday, that Ambassador Mona Juul has submitted her resignation from her position, following a serious miscalculation related to her previous connections with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused in cases of sexual assaults on minors, according to Reuters.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier this week decided to temporarily suspend Juul from performing her duties as ambassador to both Jordan and Iraq, pending the completion of an internal investigation.
This decision came after the disclosure of her connections with Epstein among a large collection of documents recently released by the US government.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, said in an official statement that Juul's interaction with Epstein, despite his conviction for sexual crimes, reflects a severely poor judgment, adding that this issue undermines the trust necessary for holding a senior diplomatic position and that restoring that trust is now difficult.
Mona Juul is 66 years old and has a distinguished diplomatic and political record, having previously served as Norway's ambassador to Israel and Britain, as well as representing her country at the United Nations, and she had also held a ministerial portfolio within the Norwegian government earlier.
In related news, Jeffrey Epstein was accused in 2019 of sex trafficking of minors in the United States, before being found dead in his cell in July of the same year.
The official investigation then concluded that he had committed suicide, although his case continued to be a symbol of corruption and deviation, and a name ostracized by anyone who does not want to be associated with it, even if it was just a resemblance in features.
