Energy Authority Adding detector additive to kerosene to detect tampering and does not affect its quality

Khaberni - Tahrir Al-Qaq, the spokesperson for the Energy and Minerals Authority, said on Sunday that the decision to add the color-detecting additive to kerosene aims to detect any cases of tampering or mixing with diesel or gasoline, confirming that this additive does not affect the quality or operational efficiency of kerosene, and that its specifications remain unchanged.

Al-Qaq explained during statements to Al-Mamlaka channel that the color-detecting additive is part of the Jordanian standard specification and the approved technical regulation, and the main purpose of it is to detect tampering and attempts to mix kerosene with diesel or gasoline, confirming that the quality of kerosene remains the same without any impact on type or efficiency.

She confirmed that this additive is used in many countries around the world for the same purpose, and that the blue color of kerosene aims to enhance monitoring and early detection of any violations.

She mentioned that during this period there have been no registered cases of tampering, and that the authority continues its practice of effective monitoring with its partners at the Standards and Metrology Organization, expressing confidence in the sector's workers and the awareness of citizens, emphasizing that no complaints have been received by the authority, either through inspection tours or through the monitoring and emergency center and public service center.

The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority had decided at the beginning of last December to add the color-detecting additive to kerosene, as an immediate tool for regulatory teams to detect any attempts at tampering, confirming that this measure is within the Jordanian standard specifications and the approved technical regulation.
