A sharp Saudi statement against the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan

Khaberni - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of what it described as "criminal" attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, following a series of horrific attacks witnessed in recent days.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks of the Rapid Support Forces on Al-Kuik military hospital, on a relief convoy belonging to the World Food Programme, and on a bus carrying displaced civilians.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that these "criminal attacks" led to the deaths of dozens of unarmed civilians, including women and children, and caused damage to facilities and relief convoys in the states of North and South Kordofan.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasized that these acts cannot be justified in any circumstances and constitute blatant violations of all humanitarian norms and relevant international agreements.

Saudi Arabia demanded an immediate stop of these violations by the Rapid Support Forces, and adherence to their moral and humanitarian obligation to secure the delivery of relief aid to those in need, according to international and humanitarian laws, and as stated in the Jeddah declaration regarding the necessity of protecting civilians in Sudan signed on May 11, 2023.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its position advocating for the unity, security, and stability of Sudan and the importance of preserving its legitimate institutions.

The Kingdom reiterated its rejection of foreign interventions and the continued involvement of various parties in smuggling illegal weapons, mercenaries, and foreign fighters, despite affirming their support for a political solution, considering this behavior a main factor in prolonging the conflict and increasing the ongoing suffering of the Sudanese people.

In the early days of this February, Al-Kuik military hospital in South Kordofan was bombed, resulting in the death of more than 20 people including medical staff. Moreover, a convoy belonging to the World Food Programme in North Kordofan was targeted by drones, and a bus carrying displaced persons was attacked, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties including women and children.

Sudan is currently classified as the largest displacement crisis in the world, with repeated warnings from the United Nations and relief organizations about an imminent famine that could devastate the populations of Darfur, Kordofan, and other areas.
