Khaberni - In a historic judicial ruling that favored workers' rights in Italy, the Court of Appeals in the city of "Lecce" ruled to reinstate worker Francesco Rucci to his job, after his dismissal for a photo showing him with closed eyes during work hours was deemed arbitrary and illegal.
Rucci was dismissed in 2023 on charges of sleeping during work, however, the court revealed that the incident was merely fleeting moments of exhaustion due to work shifts extending to 12 hours in a harsh working environment. The court deemed the punishment disproportionate to the act; it obligated the company to pay all his overdue entitlements and reinstated him to his position, thus closing a three-year legal battle during which Rucci faced "administrative hunting" and job isolation, affirming his return to work with his head held high.
