Khaberni - An Egyptian court has sentenced a man to death by hanging for kidnapping a child and attempting to gouge out her eyes, causing serious injuries to her in the Sharqia Governorate in the north of the country, following the opinion of the Grand Mufti.
During the trial session, as the accused tried to look at them, the public prosecutor addressed him, saying: "Do not raise your eyes, for there is no one in the room who wants a look from you," emphasizing that the crime committed by the accused was inhumane and warrants the highest degrees of legal accountability.
The case has captured the public's attention in Egypt due to its horrific nature after the man lured the child and assaulted her, robbing her of her virginity and attempting to gouge out her eyes, taking advantage of her young age, according to the investigations of the prosecution.
The roots of the case go back to last December, when the public prosecution referred the accused "Mohamed T.S.," 24 years old, to criminal trial at the Zagazig Criminal Court, accusing him of kidnapping the victim "Shaimaa E.," 11 years old, and assaulting her in one of the agricultural lands.
The child’s mother mentioned during the investigations that her daughter told her that while she was walking on the road to buy household necessities, the accused forcefully and reluctantly dragged her, then assaulted her, leaving her after her repeated cries for help were noticed by one of the locals, according to the results of the investigations.
The incident received a wide reaction among the citizens who described the court's ruling as "just," expressing their hope that no appeal from the accused would be accepted.
