Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks today, Saturday, that focused on ways to elevate joint work in various fields, particularly economic, investment, industrial, and military fields, to serve bilateral interests and support calming efforts in the region.
During bilateral discussions followed by expanded ones at the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul in the presence of His Highness Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, the King’s Chief Adviser for Religious and Cultural Affairs and His Majesty’s Personal Envoy, the leaders emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the recently hosted Joint Economic Committee meeting in Amman.
Discussing regional developments, the leaders pointed to the necessity of preserving the sovereignty of all states to achieve peace and stability in the region, appreciating His Majesty's efforts towards the diligent role of Turkey in this context.
His Majesty the King stressed the need to ensure the implementation of the agreement to end the war in Gaza and alleviate humanitarian suffering by increasing the flow of relief aid and initiating reconstruction efforts.
Regarding the West Bank, the leaders renewed their complete rejection of unilateral actions against Palestinians and policies of annexation and displacement that undermine the prospects for achieving peace and stability.
The leaders also expressed their absolute rejection of any attempts to change the historic and legal status in the city of Jerusalem, with His Majesty affirming Jordan's ongoing role in the custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites there, under the Hashemite custodianship.
His Majesty the King and the Turkish President affirmed their support for the fair and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the necessity of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.
During the talks, the importance of supporting Syria's efforts to maintain its security, stability, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity was affirmed, with an emphasis on enhancing cooperation between Jordan, Turkey, and Syria, especially in the transport sector.
Regarding developments related to Iran, the leaders emphasized the importance of using peaceful means and dialogue to resolve the crisis and reduce tensions.
In turn, the Turkish president highlighted his country's interest in increasing cooperation, exchanging expertise, and developing relations with Jordan, noting that the two countries will celebrate next year the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between them.
Erdogan reaffirmed the significant role of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in caring for these sanctuaries.
His Majesty the King awarded the Turkish president the Hussein bin Ali Collar, in appreciation of his efforts in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and deepening the distinguished relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
The discussions were attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, the Chief of the Joint Staff Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Huneiti, the Director of His Majesty the King’s Office, Alaa Batayneh, and the Jordanian Ambassador to Turkey Hazem Al-Tamimi.
