Khaberni - Surveillance cameras in a mobile phone store in India captured an unusual incident, where a teenager bit into a "lithium-ion" type smartphone battery, causing it to explode instantly and turn into a ball of flames inside his mouth; this resulted in him sustaining severe burns to his face.
The incident began when the boy stood in front of the maintenance platform and, unexpectedly, put the battery between his jaws, and due to the mechanical pressure on the chemical cell, his teeth pierced the outer casing, causing a massive thermal jump.
Technical safety experts warned that this type of battery stores a very high amount of energy, turning into a small explosive device when punctured or crushed. Reports relayed by the site "ndtv" emphasized the importance of keeping electronic components out of children's reach and not to conduct any improvised experiments on them.
The circulated footage received angry reactions from internet users who decried the lack of awareness about the dangers of lithium, affirming that damaged or bloated batteries should be immediately taken to recycling centers and not handled with hands or teeth.
