Khaberni - The Court of Cassation upheld the State Security Court's ruling to imprison a drug dealer linked to a regional gang for ten years for the possession of drugs in July 2020.
The State Security Court issued its decision after finding the defendant guilty of possessing drugs with the intent to sell, as he attempted to deliver a quantity of drugs to an undercover security officer on July 21, 2020.
The State Security Court sentenced the defendant to ten years in prison, in addition to a financial penalty of ten thousand Jordanian dinars.
According to the case files, the Drug Enforcement Department received a report about the accused, who had links to an international gang, and was in possession of crystal meth, so the security forces placed him under surveillance.
The documents added that the Drug Enforcement sent one of its employees disguised as a buyer to verify the suspect's activities, explaining that the undercover employee contacted the accused and requested 700 grams of crystal meth in exchange for 19 thousand Jordanian dinars.
During the meeting, the accused was immediately arrested by the drug enforcement officers. Upon searching the accused's home, the officers found additional drugs and a mobile phone containing contact numbers used to communicate with international drug dealers, according to the court.
The accused attempted to appeal the State Security Court’s ruling through his lawyer, who argued that there was insufficient evidence to prove the charges against his client.
In contrast, the prosecution office at the State Security Court asked the Court of Cassation to uphold the verdict and the imposed fine on the accused.
The Court of Cassation confirmed that the State Security Court followed the correct legal procedures when issuing the ruling, noting that the accused voluntarily confessed to possessing the drugs with the intent to sell them in the local market.
