Khaberni - Both France and Canada, on Friday, inaugurated new consulates in "Nuuk", the capital of the vast Greenland region, in a diplomatic step that reflects the opposition of the two countries to the project management initiative of US President Donald Trump aimed at overseeing or controlling this Arctic region.
Journalists from the French Press Agency observed the inauguration ceremonies that confirm the international desire to enhance an independent presence within this strategic geographical structure.
A historic day for Canada and a strengthening of relations with the "Inuit"
The Canadian Foreign Minister, Anita Anand, stated before raising her country’s flag in front of the new mission building: "This is a very important day for us as a country, as we witness today the opening of the consulate here in Nuuk, Greenland".
The ceremonies took place amidst applause from a delegation of the "Inuit" people coming from the "Inuit Nunangat" region to participate in this occasion, highlighting the cultural and political dimension of this Canadian diplomatic representation in the Arctic.
France begins its diplomatic duties and Consul Jean Noël Bouarié assumes his position
On the other side, the General Consul for France, Jean Noël Bouarié, arrived on Friday to the capital "Nuuk", where he officially took over his duties to start the work of the French consulate in the region.
This French move completes the European and Canadian position against any American attempts to change the legal or political status of Greenland, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Denmark's sovereignty and the region's autonomy away from the aspirations of the American administration.
