Khaberni - The Syndicate of Jewelers and Jewelry Shop Owners warned citizens of increasing fraud through social media sites and fake online platforms promoting the selling and buying of gold, confirming the receipt of numerous complaints in this regard.
Abdul Rahman Al-Nabulsi, a member of the Syndicate of Jewelers and Jewelry Shop Owners, said on Friday that the syndicate advises against buying or selling gold through social media or untrusted online platforms due to the risks it poses to the citizens, noting the arrest of several individuals who defrauded citizens in gold buying and selling operations.
He added that the relevant authorities have shut down many online platforms that were promoting gold buying or selling, noting that some of these sites operate from outside the kingdom and target citizens within Jordan.
Al-Nabulsi explained that the syndicate detected cases where counterfeit ounces were sold to citizens as genuine gold, pointing out that the price of an ounce reaches up to nearly 5,000 dollars, while some fraudsters offer it through social media at lower prices reaching down to 4,000 dollars or less to entice buyers.
The syndicate affirmed its continued commitment to warning citizens against dealing with these sites, urging them to buy and sell gold exclusively through licensed, accredited shops with official receipts, in order to protect their rights and avoid fraud and deception.
