Is Sun Exposure Enough to Get Vitamin D

Khaberni - Dr. Olga Shubo, a dermatology specialist, stated that it is impossible to get enough vitamin D, even with frequent exposure to sunlight.

According to her, this is because the production of vitamin D by sunlight only occurs when the skin reddens, and slows down as soon as it tans.

She says, "Moreover, we must not overlook the need to limit exposure to direct sunlight. Because excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays poses a serious risk of skin cancer. Also, limiting sun exposure reduces the efficiency of this vitamin's production. With aging, the skin's ability to produce it weakens, so it is impossible to compensate for the deficiency by sun exposure alone. This is a myth."

According to her, vitamin D can be obtained from food, as it is found in raw egg yolk, certain types of mushrooms, cheese, cottage cheese, butter, in addition to fermented dairy products, fatty fish, and seafood. However, following a balanced diet alone is not enough to compensate for the deficiency, because industrially produced modern foods lack vitamins.

In addition, chronic inflammation or stress can rapidly deplete vitamin D stores, as they cause oxidative stress, which requires the body to have a high level of antioxidants to combat it. Vitamin D is one of the strongest antioxidants, acting to inhibit free radicals.

She says, "It is important to remember that only a doctor can prescribe an appropriate treatment regimen and dosage for vitamin D deficiency. If necessary, it is preferable to choose vitamins in liposomal form, as they easily penetrate cell membranes and withstand oxidative stress in the stomach."
