Egyptian Judiciary Delivers Its Verdict on the Rocket Case

Khaberni - The Ismailia Misdemeanor Court held a new session to consider the "Saw Child" case that shook Egypt, where a child victim was killed by his peer who then chopped his body into pieces with an electric saw and scattered them in various areas.

Today, Thursday, the court sentenced the accused child's father to four years in prison and fined him 100,000 Egyptian pounds, for charges related to the crime, including covering it up.

The father of the accused faces several accusations including covering up the crime, participating in hiding the body and the details of the incident, and concealing evidence, as well as negligence in caring for the child, all of which require legal accountability.

The previous court sessions witnessed the court listening to the pleadings of the defense and the civil rights plaintiff, before the court decided to reserve the case for judgment, which was issued during today's session.

The victim's attorney revealed details of the trial of the accused's father, stating that during the previous session, he insisted on the rights of the victim's family, and requested the court to apply the maximum penalty to the accused and refer him to the criminal court due to his actions and role in committing the crime.

The case is known in the media as "The Rocket or Electric Saw Crime," due to the student’s use of a device known as "the rocket" to cut up his peer’s body after killing him.

The crime took place in the Al-Mahatta area in Ismailia Governorate. The accused child was 13-years-old while his peer was 12-years-old and was brutally murdered inside the apartment before his body was cut into 6 parts using an electric saw.

According to investigations, the accused child lured his peer, Mohamed, to his family's apartment in the absence of their parents, claiming he wanted "to play together" after school hours at a local public school. Yusuf, the victim, was caught off-guard inside the apartment, strangled with a rope around his neck, followed by a plastic bag being placed over his head until he choked.

After confirming his peer's death, he went to his father's carpentry workshop inside the house, fetched a device popularly known as "the rocket," and cut the body into 6 pieces, disposing of them in different areas on the street.

Investigations indicated that the accused was obsessed with the internet, with speculations about the use of artificial intelligence programs in committing the incident and also in disposing of the body.
