Khaberni - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent said on Thursday that imposing further American sanctions on Russia depends on the course of the talks aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has lasted nearly 4 years.
Bisent mentioned that he would consider imposing new sanctions on the Russian shadow fleet, a step that President Donald Trump has not taken since returning to office in January 2025.
During a Senate committee hearing, Bisent stated, "I will take that into account. We will see where the peace talks go."
He noted that the sanctions imposed by the Trump administration on the two major Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, have helped bring Russia to the negotiating table and participate in peace talks.
