Experts warned against transporting gas-filled balloons in elevators or enclosed spaces, emphasizing the need to be cautious to prevent similar incidents in residential buildings.
Khaberni - Passengers in an elevator in the Gurgaon West area of Mumbai, India, experienced moments of terror after hydrogen gas-filled balloons exploded inside the elevator, causing a horrific fire that inflicted multiple burns on two individuals.
The incident occurred in the "Anmol Towers" residential building when a woman entered the elevator with a cart, followed by a man carrying a plastic bag filled with balloons, and then another young man with a backpack. As soon as the door closed, the balloons exploded rapidly, and the elevator was filled with flames.
The three immediately fled and managed to exit before the fire escalated, while two of them suffered multiple burns.
Footage from the internal surveillance cameras showed the rapid escalation of the fire due to the high flammability of the balloon's hydrogen, where a simple spark or electrical discharge is enough to ignite a fire in an enclosed space.
Although the fire lasted only a short period, the incident raised concerns about safety loopholes in residential complexes and the risk posed by flammable materials in enclosed spaces.
