White House Trump Awaits Whether a Deal with Iran is Possible

Khaberni - White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said on Thursday that President Donald Trump is awaiting the U.S.-Iran talks in Oman on Friday to determine whether an agreement with Tehran can be reached amid U.S. military reinforcements in the Middle East.

Levitt added to reporters, "During these negotiations, I would like to remind the Iranian regime that the president has many options available, in addition to diplomacy, as the commander-in-chief of the strongest military in the history of the world."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left for Muscat to lead the Iranian delegation in negotiations. The U.S. president's special envoy, Donald Trump, led by Steve Witkoff is scheduled to lead the U.S. delegation in the talks.

Iran expressed hope that Washington would show "seriousness" during the anticipated talks between them on its nuclear program on Friday.

Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ismail Baqai wrote in a post on the (X) platform, "We (the Iranian government) have a responsibility to seize every diplomatic opportunity for... maintaining peace and stability in the region," expressing hope that "the American side will also participate responsibly, realistically, and seriously" in the discussions.

This meeting comes less than a month after the peak of the wave of protests that swept across Iran, which human rights organizations say was met with an unprecedented crackdown that resulted in thousands of deaths.

Trump initially threatened military action against Tehran due to its repression of demonstrators, telling protesters that "help is on the way." However, his rhetoric in recent days has focused on curbing the Iranian nuclear program, which the West fears aims to build a nuclear bomb.
