Khaberni - The Government of Japan granted $74,576 to the Jordan Red Cresent Society, to provide medical equipment for the emergency department in its hospital, as part of the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The grant agreement was signed during a ceremony held on February 5, 2026, and was signed by the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom, Hideki Asari, and the President of the Jordan Red Cresent Society, Mohammed Al-Hadid.
The grant aims to improve the quality of emergency services and the intensive care unit at the Jordan Red Cresent Hospital, by providing intensive care beds and medical equipment for the emergency department. The hospital receives children from the Gaza Strip in need of medical treatment as part of His Majesty King Abdullah II's Royal Initiative, and this grant will enable the hospital to increase its capacity to receive patients who have been evacuated from the sector, in addition to vulnerable population groups within Jordan.
It is noted that the hospital, since its establishment in 1947, has played an important role in providing medical services to less fortunate groups, including residents of the Wihdat refugee camp located near the hospital.
During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Asari expressed his gratitude for the social contribution made by the society, noting that supporting the implementation of royal initiatives to save children from Gaza aligns with Japan's policy, and that the Jordan Red Cresent has made efforts to provide high-quality, lifesaving treatment, considering the commitment and dedication of the team as an inspiration.
Mohammed Al-Hadid, the president of the society, said that this initiative embodies an extension of a longstanding and prestigious relationship between the Jordan Red Cresent and the Japanese Red Cross Society and the Government of Japan that dates back to the 1990s, pointing out that successive grants have contributed to developing the society's capabilities and providing lifesaving medical services to the most needy groups.
As part of the GGP grants, Japan has provided more than $10.58 million to fund 161 projects for non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and municipalities in Jordan since 1993.
