Khaberni - After the closure of the famous Roblox platform due to its severe danger to children and teenagers, the Egyptian authorities intend to shut down other applications, including the most famous betting application, in coordination between the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, and the relevant entities.
According to officials confirmed to "Al Arabiya.net" and "Al Hadath.net", the state is moving towards expanding the scope of monitoring content of illegitimate electronic games, where the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the House of Representatives recommended shutting down three non-compliant electronic games.
The committee confirmed the existence of full coordination with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, to block games that do not comply with the values of Egyptian society, and contain content that conflicts with ethical and cultural standards.
Blocking three applications
Ahmed Badawi, chairman of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the House of Representatives, stated in an exclusive statement to "Al Arabiya.net" and "Al Hadath.net", that the committee officially recommended blocking three electronic betting applications, due to the significant danger they represent to society, emphasizing that these applications are a wide gateway for committing many crimes.
Badawi explained that these applications rely on fraud and deception to lure users into organized financial traps aimed at seizing their money, noting that the relevant authorities identified the three most dangerous applications violating the law, after receiving multiple complaints and monitoring illegal practices that contradict the laws regulating the use of cyberspace in Egypt.
He noted that the competent authorities were formally addressed, especially the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, demanding the blocking of these applications and taking the necessary legal measures against them.
Severe social and security effects
The chairman of the committee emphasized that the danger of the betting applications is not only limited to financial losses but also extends to severe social and security effects, pointing out that they contribute to an increase in the rates of cyber crimes, and pose a direct threat to children and teenagers, by enticing them with false and quick gains, which could lead to behavioral deviations and significant psychological and material losses.
Badawi stressed that the committee continues its movements within the framework of its supervisory and legislative role to protect citizens, especially the youth, from any content or applications that threaten societal values or digital security, confirming the continuing coordination with the relevant entities to monitor any non-compliant platforms and deal with them decisively and without leniency.
Recently, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt, chaired by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, decided on Wednesday, after coordinating with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, to block the "Roblox" game in Egypt.
Risk to young children and teenagers
The decision came after Egyptian specialists in the field of cybersecurity and psychology warned of the platform's danger, affirming that it poses a severe risk to young children and teenagers.
They said that the game, which attracts more than 200 million monthly users worldwide, mostly between the ages of 8 and 16, contains disgusting insinuations that are not suitable for children, calling for its ban and warning families about it.
