New Scientific Conclusions About the Health Effects of Green Tea

Khaberni - Researchers from the Tea Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have concluded that regular consumption of tea, especially green tea, offers multiple health benefits.

The report links green tea consumption with a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. It also mentions protective effects on the brain, slowing down age-related muscle mass loss, and reducing inflammation. The study was conducted under the supervision of Professors Mingchuan Yang and Li Zhou and was based on laboratory experiments and research involving humans.

Tea is extracted from the plant Camellia sinensis, which has been consumed for centuries. Its health benefits are associated with polyphenol compounds, especially catechins, which are more concentrated in green tea. Research shows that tea “reduces blood pressure and improves cholesterol levels, and decreases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and early death in people who drink it regularly. Green tea can also help control body weight, slow cognitive decline, and reduce indicators of Alzheimer's disease in the elderly, in addition to reducing muscle mass loss”.
Researchers warn about the necessity of consuming tea without sugar, as pre-packaged drinks may contain sugars and preservatives. They also pointed to the possible presence of pesticides, heavy metals, and microplastic particles in tea bags, although this does not pose a linear threat to most people. It is also important to note that tea may reduce the absorption of iron and calcium, which is crucial for individuals with special dietary needs.

The authors of the research conclude with the importance of preferring traditional tea varieties, limiting processed beverages, and practicing moderate and regular tea consumption, contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
