Khaberni - A 19-year-old Thai teenager tragically drowned while attempting to mimic a famous photo pose of K-pop star Lisa from the South Korean group Blackpink.
The incident occurred at the famous Nakhon Ratchasima lake in northeastern Thailand last Sunday, when the wooden boat carrying "Navat Songsri" and a group of K-pop fans capsized.
The group was attempting to recreate widely shared photos of the star Lisa among the blooming lotus flowers in the lake, when the teenagers pushed one side of the boat trying to imitate the famous pose, causing the boat to overturn and everyone to fall into the water.
Two of the teenagers managed to swim back to shore, but Navat did not reappear after his legs got entangled among the lotus stems spread out in the water, according to "The Sun" newspaper.
Rescue teams received a report at exactly 6:30 PM local time and rushed to the scene equipped with diving gear.
Recorded footage showed rescue team members wading through the lake searching for the missing teenager, before they found Navat's lifeless body at the bottom of the lake, which is 6 feet deep, and rescue personnel carried the body to the shore, where paramedics confirmed the young man's death at the scene.
One of the paramedics from the rescue team stated that Navat was likely a weak swimmer, or his legs got stuck among the lotus stems, which caused him to drown.
A police spokesperson issued a statement expressing condolences from the Shok Chai police station to the bereaved family, warning all residents about water accidents that can happen at any time, while the rescue team transferred the body for necessary examinations to confirm the exact cause of death, before contacting the relatives to retrieve the body and hold religious rites.
It's worth noting that the teenagers were trying to imitate the tourism promotional posters of the star Lisa, produced in cooperation with tourism officials to promote the Red Lotus Sea in Udon Thani province.
The campaign features the singer on a boat adoptin various photo poses among the pink blooming lotus flowers at dawn, which is the time when the flowers bloom with the morning sun.
These images have gained wide spread on social media platforms, prompting many fans to try imitating them without realizing the potential dangers in lakes filled with dense lotus plants.
