Ter Stegen to undergo surgery on Friday with a long absence expected

Khaberni -  Girona FC confirms that its German international goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo surgery following a recent injury.

Ter Stegen sustained a severe injury during a match for his team, on loan to them in January (January) past, from Barcelona, during a match against Real Oviedo in the Spanish league.

Girona in a brief statement via its "X" account said: "Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo surgery on Friday, following the injury he suffered in the left hamstring".

The club, which is twelfth in the Spanish league standings with 25 points, added that the recovery time from the surgery will be determined after the procedures he will undergo.

Doubts had surrounded the possibility of Ter Stegen’s participation with the German national team in the World Cup finals, after earlier speculations suggested that his absence could be more than two months, in addition to the rehabilitation period and the extent of his improvement, and not being technically affected during that period.

The 33-year-old international goalkeeper was loaned to Girona after failing to gain the confidence of his coach and compatriot Hansi Flick, the coach of Barcelona, who prefers to rely on goalkeeper Juan García
