Khaberni - Real Madrid players participated in Wednesday's training wearing the renowned oxygen deprivation masks, which physical trainer Antonio Pintus has relied on for many years as part of the intensive physical preparation program.
The training session was in preparation for Real Madrid's upcoming Sunday match against Valencia, as part of the 23rd round of the Spanish league.
What is the Secret Behind the Strange Masks of Real Madrid Players?
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, these masks are a core part of Pintos's methodology, aiming to simulate high-altitude training conditions by reducing the flow of oxygen to the brain and muscles, thus forcing the body to improve oxygen utilization efficiency, and enhance cardiac and respiratory capacity.
This technique also allows for accurate assessment of each player's physical condition and the creation of personalized training programs tailored to their needs.
According to the same newspaper, these masks regulate the amount of oxygen entering the body through 3 interchangeable valves, two for inhalation and one for expulsion, and they mimic altitudes ranging from 910 to 5500 meters above sea level, providing benefits similar to training under harsh conditions.
Once the training with the masks is complete, Pintos analyzes all the results of each player and can conduct a personalized training session.
Pintos’s masks are typically used once or twice per season, and today's session was the first time these masks have appeared this season.
