UNRWA Rafah Crossing Not Operating at Full Capacity Means More Loss of Life

Khaberni - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Wednesday that not allowing the Rafah crossing to operate at full capacity will maintain the humanitarian repercussions as they are, without tangible improvement on the ground at the required speed, meaning the continuation of loss of life.

UNRWA spokesperson, Jonathan Fowler, in press statements, explained that medical evacuation operations are still very limited, while the flows of humanitarian aid are much less than the required level, in light of huge humanitarian needs. He noted that the health system in the Gaza Strip has largely collapsed.

For his part, the Acting Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, Sam Rose, stated that the agency estimates that at least 20,000 people need urgent medical care, confirming that delaying their departure to receive treatment increases the likelihood of their death or exacerbating their suffering.
