Khaberni - The novel, as an Arab genre, is one of the sources of magic and pleasure in contemporary Arab life, so much so that the late renowned critic Dr. Jaber Asfour described our era as "the era of the novel" due to the volume of publications produced by publishing houses from the ocean to the Gulf, which are estimated to be in the hundreds annually.
The novel ranks at the forefront of the "best-selling" works, in addition to many of them being turned into successful films, and many major awards are now dedicated to it, enticing writers with lucrative financial amounts.
This magic originating from narrative storytelling is now threatened by a loss of "authenticity" due to increasing alarming indicators of a number of young or untalented writers turning to artificial intelligence to write literary fictional texts, as was evident in the latest edition of the Cairo International Book Fair.
Recently, cultural activists found literary texts that had been entirely processed using artificial intelligence technology, and their authors had neglected to review and polish them sufficiently, resulting in those works being published carrying instructions directed to the application about what is required in the composition of the work, and how the latter responded, in an incident considered by some as a "cultural scandal".
In one of those novels, the response of the "Chat GPT" program to a writer's instructions to write his text entirely through that technology appears, with the program responding saying, "Thank you for the clarification, I will continue narrating the events with a focus on the development of the relationship between (Ruh) and (Eyad) after planting the flowers while maintaining the presence of hope in the relationship."
The application adds, explaining the rest of its plan for writing the text: "The events will be distanced from the past and focus on the present and the future".
After the writer forgot to delete the previous paragraphs, the application resumes the narration of the events in a customary manner, saying: "After they planted the flowers in the backyard, the days passed slowly".
