After the Assassination of Saif alIslam Who Remains from Muammar Gaddafis Family

Khaberni - The assassination of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has brought the file of the family of the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi back to the forefront, which was dispersed with the fall of the regime in 2011 and has become one of the most controversial issues in Libya, having played significant roles in governance.

The name of Saif al-Islam emerged as the most controversial figure in the family after the revolution. He was seen as the possible heir to his father, and one of the leading candidates for the presidential elections, supported by followers of the former regime.
However, this trajectory ended abruptly, following the announcement of his assassination last Tuesday evening, by unknown gunmen who stormed his house in Zintan.

Saif al-Islam joins his three brothers, Mutassim, Saif al-Arab, and Khamis, who were killed during the revolution in 2011, while the rest of the family members scattered abroad.

Mohammad, Hannibal, and Al-Saadi

Mohammad, the only son from Muammar Gaddafi’s first marriage, fled to neighboring Algeria in 2011, before obtaining asylum in Oman alongside his sister Aisha.

As for Hannibal, who was recently released by the Lebanese judiciary after spending 10 years in prison on charges of withholding information related to the case of the disappearance of Shiite cleric Moussa al-Sadr and his companions in Libya, he is in an undisclosed location.

It is believed that Al-Saadi, who was released by Libyan authorities in September 2021 after spending about 7 years in prison for intentional murder, is in Turkey.

The assassination of Saif al-Islam came as Libyans prepare to celebrate in two weeks the 15th anniversary of the February Revolution, which ended four decades of Muammar Gaddafi's rule.

However, the legacy of that period continues to cast a shadow over the Libyan scene to this day.
