Dr Rand Arabiyat from Amman Arab University participates in reviewing the Jordanian National Framework for Social and Emotional

Khaberni - In line with Amman Arab University's commitment to actively participate in national initiatives related to social and emotional learning, Dr. Rand Arabiyat, chair of Educational Psychology in the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology at the university, participated in a workshop reviewing the Jordanian National Framework for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), which was held at the Dead Sea, organized by the International Committee for Relief (IRC) and the Jordanian Ministry of Education, with the presence of a selection of experts, academics, and specialists in the fields of education and psychological counseling.

The workshop aimed to review and develop the national framework for social and emotional learning to align with the Jordanian educational context and its priorities, through discussions of the concept and its theoretical and practical dimensions, analyzing its core components, reviewing the proposed skill matrix for different educational stages, as well as working on institutionalizing the framework and integrating it into educational policies and classroom practices, and exploring mechanisms to ensure its applicability and sustainability in the school environment, contributing to enhancing students' psychological health, and developing their social and emotional skills, and preparing them for positive interaction with their school and community surroundings.

Dr. Arabiyat actively participated in the sessions of the first day, which focused on unifying the definition of social and emotional learning and reviewing it conceptually and procedurally, contributing priority developmental feedback, and presenting proposals for a set of essential skills within the national framework, in line with globally accepted practices in the field, considering cultural specificity and the Jordanian educational context, and enhancing the applicability and age progression of the proposed skills across different educational stages. She also participated in the activities of the second day, which was dedicated to group work within subgroups, discussing the eight axes of institutionalizing the national framework, organizing recommendations according to priorities, identifying aspects feasible for execution and development, supporting the sustainability and efficacy of the framework at the national level, and Dr. Arabiyat's participation emphasizes the importance of integrating academic expertise with educational practice, and supporting efforts aimed at developing educational policies and programs that consider the psychological and social aspects of students at different educational stages.
