Khaberni - A British right-wing extremist party, during a protest, demanded the closure of an Islamic Sharia court in Warwickshire county, according to a video clip it released on its account on the X platform, on Monday.
The “Britain First” party organized a protest in front of an Islamic Sharia court in Nuneaton, north of Warwickshire, demanding its closure.
The party, through its official account on the X platform, published a video documenting the protest, on Monday, where protesters were seen holding signs that said "Close the Sharia Court".
In the video, the leader of the party, "Paul Golding", appeared, with a few protesters holding signs behind him, claiming that the Islamic court is involved in "several scandals", without providing evidence or examples to support his claims.
The party leader added that Islamic Sharia courts "are not welcome in the United Kingdom".
He continued saying that his party "will expose" all Islamic courts in the country, without mentioning details about its steps.
The work of Sharia councils in the United Kingdom is limited to being merely private religious advisory bodies that are not binding.
These courts primarily deal with divorce cases according to Islamic rulings, as well as family disputes.
These courts are not part of the official British judicial system, nor do they have law enforcement powers, and they cannot override British law.
This protest, although limited, comes amidst renewed controversy regarding Islamophobia in Britain, imposed by an increase in hate crimes against Muslims in the country in recent years.
