Khaberni - A Clinton aide said that he and his wife, Hillary, the 2016 Democratic nominee for president, will testify in the congressional investigation concerning the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted in sex crimes.
This decision could prevent a scheduled vote in the House of Representatives, led by the Republicans, to charge the Democratic figures with contempt of Congress, which could lead to criminal charges against them.
The US Department of Justice recently revealed millions of internal documents related to Epstein, which exposed his connections with many prominent figures in politics, finance, academia, and business, before and after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to charges related to prostitution.
In response to a question about whether the House of Representatives will delay the vote on the contempt of Congress charge against Clinton and Hillary, House Speaker Mike Johnson said: "They are working on it now. Lawyers are reviewing the details."
Johnson had earlier welcomed the news of the former president and former secretary of state's agreement to testify.
Last week, the House Oversight Committee recommended charging Clinton and his wife with contempt of Congress for their refusal to testify about their connection with Epstein.
Clinton and his wife had offered to cooperate with the committee but refused to appear before it personally, stating that the investigation is a partisan exercise aimed at protecting Republican President Donald Trump.
Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s plane several times in the early first decade of the 21st century after leaving office.
He expressed regret about this relationship and said he knew nothing about Epstein's criminal activities.
