UN report 468 families displaced in Yemen within a month

Khaberni  - A recent report by the International Organization for Migration documented the displacement of 468 families in Yemen, consisting of more than 2800 people during the past month of January/January.

According to the report from the organization's Displacement Tracking Matrix, 40 families, consisting of 240 individuals, were recorded to have been displaced in the last week of January.

It noted that 33 families settled in Marib province coming from Hadramout and Taiz provinces, while 4 families moved to Al Mahrah province after coming from Lahij province, and 3 families headed to Shabwah province, all from Al Hudaydah province.

The report noted that the Displacement Tracking Matrix in Yemen is unable to report the numbers in some provinces due to access restrictions.

The organization identified an additional 25 families displaced during the previous reporting period covering from January 18 to January 24, 2026, in the provinces of Marib, Taiz, Al Hudaydah, and Hadramout. These numbers were added to the total cumulative displacement recorded since the beginning of the year.

About two weeks ago, the International Organization for Migration reported the displacement of more than 13,000 people in Yemen during the last quarter of the previous year.

The organization typically attributes the causes of displacement to insecurity related to conflict, difficult economic conditions, natural hazards, and health reasons.

In early December of the previous year, eastern and southern areas of Yemen witnessed clashes after the Southern Transitional Council forces, which demand the separation of southern Yemen, moved to Hadramout and Al Mahrah provinces and took control of them, before the government forces, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, regained control over the provinces at the beginning of January.

Yemen has been experiencing ongoing war and repercussions for more than 10 years, and the United Nations says that the number of displaced people in the country amounts to around 4.8 million people, many of whom live in temporary shelters.
