Khaberni - The Jerash Greater Municipality began on Tuesday the implementation of the first phase of the waste basket installation project in the commercial center, which included installing 60 baskets, according to Ali Shawqa, the executive director of Jerash Greater Municipality.
Shawqa stated that the municipality will be installing about 200 additional baskets over the next few days to reduce the phenomenon of random waste disposal in the areas under its administration, explaining that installing waste baskets aims to facilitate proper waste disposal for citizens.
He added that the municipality is working to improve the service environment and increase the level of cleanliness in the city, noting that it has installed 10 cameras on its vehicles to monitor and penalize individuals who engage in random waste disposal.
Shawqa highlighted that the municipality distributed 800 green containers dedicated for waste sorting inside the commercial center, in addition to metal cages to collect recyclable materials such as plastic, cardboard, and paper, at the municipality's sorting station.
He mentioned that these measures have contributed to reducing the amounts of waste transported to the Akider landfill, explaining that the sorted waste is sold, generating financial returns through public auction.
