Hassan mourns former Prime Minister Ahmad Obeidat

Khaberni - Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan deeply mourns one of Jordan's prominent figures, former Prime Minister Ahmad Obeidat, who passed away to the mercy of God last night, Monday, after a life filled with work serving the nation, its people, and its Hashemite leadership.
The Prime Minister expressed his sincerest condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased, affirming that Jordan has lost one of its prominent figures who served the nation at crucial stages of its history with complete dedication and devotion, praying to the Almighty to envelop him in His vast mercy and pleasure.
The late Ahmad Obeidat held the position of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense between 1984 – 1985 and Minister of Interior between 1982 –1984, as well as Director General of the Intelligence Service, member of the House of Notables more than once, and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme.
He also served as the chairman of the Royal Committee for the articulation of the National Charter between 1990 – 1991 and as Deputy Chairman of the Royal Committee for Human Rights in 2000, Vice Chairman of the Royal Committee for Judicial Development in 2000, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights from 2003 until 2008.
The late Ahmad Obeidat was born in the town of Hartha in the Irbid governorate in 1938 and was awarded the Renaissance Medal, First Degree.
