Khaberni - An American woman's therapeutic experience for alleviating jaw pain turned into a real nightmare after Botox injections in the chewing muscles froze her facial expressions and smile, although the procedure succeeded in reducing pain in the temporomandibular joint that connects the jaw to the skull.
27-year-old Bailey Turner tells "People" magazine that she suffered for many years from pain caused by a temporomandibular joint disorder, adding, "I hold a lot of tension in the chewing muscles," this joint is located next to the muscle and connects the lower jaw to the skull, and structural problems or daily habits such as teeth grinding or clenching can lead to jaw stiffness, headaches, and other complications.
According to Bailey Turner, her previous attempts were unfruitful until she noticed many social media posts talking about Botox injections for alleviating temporomandibular joint pain and face slimming, which prompted her to try the treatment herself.
After further research, Bailey Turner decided to proceed with the procedure, noting that masseter Botox is not a comprehensive treatment for all temporomandibular joint pain problems but is typically used to relieve jaw tension, pointing out that the appointment was quick and easy, and that the recovery was very limited, with minor bruising and negligible pain.
Loss of Smile
About a week later, Turner noticed a change in her smile, but she was not satisfied with the result, saying, "The jaw pain was completely gone, and that was great, but my smile felt as if it was frozen, felt like I couldn't laugh or even smile naturally."
Turner shared a video on "TikTok" showing the results of the injections, commenting, "I got Masseter Botox for temporomandibular joint pain and ended up with a frozen face."
She also posted before and after photos of the procedure showing how her smile changed; in the earlier photos, her smile was wide and natural, while after the injections, it appeared more reserved. Some followers reacted that they had similar experiences, and others thanked her for her cautionary advice before proceeding with the procedure.
