A Simple Method to Prevent Fatty Liver Disease

Khaberni - A recent medical study revealed that regular use of fish oil is associated with a lowered risk of acute non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
The researchers came to this result after analyzing medical data for about 489,000 individuals obtained from the UK Biobank, observing the health status of the participants over 12 months. They noted that 5,671 people were afflicted with acute fatty liver disease, and the data analysis showed that those who consumed fish oil supplements - the main source of omega-3 fatty acids, were about 7% less likely to suffer from severe liver damage compared to those who did not use these supplements.
An additional analysis of the data indicated that the protective effect of fish oil is partly due to reduced inflammation and improved metabolic processes, as this supplement lowers the level of C-reactive protein (an indicator of inflammation) in the body, and increases levels of good cholesterol "HDL", and also enhances kidney functions, which helps in improving liver functions.

The researchers confirm that the findings support the use of "omega-3" supplements as a potential tool for the prevention of acute fatty liver disease, especially given its increasing prevalence. As the study is observational, scientists advise considering fish oil as a supplement to a healthy lifestyle, not as a comprehensive treatment.
