Trump There are ongoing talks with Iran

Khaberni - US President Donald Trump said on Monday that there are ongoing talks with Iran amid escalating tensions, adding "we want to see a deal through negotiation with Iran".

He added to reporters at the White House "We have ships heading to Iran right now, large ships... and we are conducting talks with Iran. We will see how things go," warning that "bad things" will happen if Iran fails to reach an agreement.

Axios reported, citing two informed sources, that Steve Whitcov, the special envoy for US President Donald Trump, is expected to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday in Istanbul to discuss a potential nuclear deal.

Reuters reported, citing a diplomat, that some regional countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, and Egypt are expected to participate in the meeting.

The Iranian news agency Fars reported on Monday that Iranian President Masoud Bazeshkian has requested to start talks on his country's nuclear program with the United States, amid tensions with Washington which does not rule out resorting to military force.

A government source said, "President Masoud Bazeshkian has ordered to start talks with the United States," and added that "Iran and the United States will hold discussions on the nuclear file," without specifying a date.
