Venezuelan Acting President Meets US Charge dAffaires in Caracas

Khaberni  - Venezuelan Information Minister Miguel Angel Perez stated that the Venezuelan acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, had a meeting on Monday with the head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Caracas, Laura Dogu.

Perez said on his X platform account: "On the afternoon of February 2, the Venezuelan acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, met with Laura Dogu, the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Venezuela."

The minister indicated that the meeting was held at the Miraflores presidential palace as part of the cooperation agenda between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United States.

Last Sunday, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil held talks with the new head of the U.S. diplomatic mission shortly after her arrival in Caracas.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry stated in a communiqué that the meeting is part of the "agenda between the Venezuelan government and the United States to outline a roadmap on issues of bilateral interest, as well as addressing and resolving existing conflicts through diplomatic dialogue, based on mutual respect and international law."

Dogu arrived in Caracas on Saturday in the context of the gradual resumption of bilateral relations, less than a month after the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by U.S. special forces.

Relations were severed between the two countries in 2019 during the first term of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Dogu said on her X platform account, "I just arrived in Venezuela. My team and I are fully prepared to work."

Washington appointed Dogu, a former ambassador to Nicaragua and Honduras, as the Charge d'Affaires on January 22, occupying the highest position in the diplomatic mission with the ambassador position still vacant.
