Prime Minister of Greenland Trump seeks to take control of the island

Khaberni - Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen warned on Monday that despite U.S. President Donald Trump ruling out the use of military force, Washington still fundamentally seeks to take control of the Arctic island.

U.S. Secretary of the Navy John Villan posted a new picture of U.S. President Donald Trump with a penguin, similar to an earlier photo released by the White House.

Trump intensified his calls to take control of Greenland at the beginning of the year, citing national security concerns related to Russia and China, which threatened the dismantling of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Since then, Trump has backed down from his threats to use force, stating that he has secured full U.S. access to Greenland in an agreement with NATO, although the details are unclear.

Nielsen said in a speech to Parliament through a translator: "The stance towards Greenland and its people has not changed; Greenland will be linked to the United States and governed from there."

Nielsen added that the United States continues to explore "ways to own Greenland and take control of it."
