Khaberni - Deputy Adnan Mashoqah addresses a handful of embarrassing questions to Prime Minister Jafar Hassan concerning the accumulated debts of public universities, the reasons behind them, and their solutions. Here is the text of the questions.
Please direct the following to the Prime Minister:
1. What are the administrative and financial causes that led to the accumulation of debt in seven public universities, namely the University of Jordan, Yarmouk, Al al-Bayt, Tafila Technical, Al-Balqa Applied, Al-Hussein Bin Talal, and Mutah universities, and what is the total debt of these universities? What are the key decisions, programs, Khaberni, and projects that these universities have undertaken that led to their respective debts? For each university, I request a comprehensive statement detailing these decisions, programs, and projects.
2. What are the administrative and legal measures that the government has taken against those responsible for mismanagement at these universities, whether it be the presidency of the university, Khaberni, the council of deans, or the staff of each university?
3. How will the government address the debt of these universities and is there a plan by the government? I request to be provided with this plan if it exists.
4. What practical measures have the government and the universities taken to implement the recommendations of the Audit Bureau regarding the control of operational expenses, cessation of unplanned expansions in programs and appointments, and addressing administrative and functional bloat? Has there been an independent financial and administrative audit of the universities with the highest debt and what are the main findings? I request to be provided with this information if available.?
