Khaberni - The General Director of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, said on Sunday that the authority has decided to move to the second phase of the regular public transport development project following the success achieved in the first phase, which received positive feedback from the citizens.
Al-Kharabsheh explained, via "Al-Mamlaka", that the second phase aims to connect all provinces of the kingdom with the capital Amman. This phase will involve the operation of 180 buses as replacements and will increase the number of routes from 4 to 7. This expansion ensures that all provinces are connected to the capital center, in addition to linking the provincial centers with transport services characterized by privacy and safety.
He pointed out that this phase will include fixed schedules and timings, television monitoring, a control center, longer service hours, and a greater number of trips. The schedules will be announced through an electronic application, employing electronic payment systems.
Al-Kharabsheh expects that the buses in the second phase will serve around 15,000 citizens daily in their travels between the provinces and the capital Amman, while maintaining the same transport fares without any increase.
Al-Kharabsheh mentioned that the project is a continuation of a practical, field-based government approach, noting the existence of a set of procedures related to the governance of the project. The authority will begin cooperating with operators to rapidly establish companies.
About the first phase, Al-Kharabsheh explained that it began in 2025, and it served four provinces through the operation of 127 buses in a regular transport service based on fixed timings and clear schedules, with television monitoring and a control center to monitor buses in the four provinces, which laid the foundation for moving to the second phase.
He added that the government provides direct support of 5 million dinars annually for the operating buses, totaling 300 buses in the first and second phases. He confirmed that the project will have a direct impact on citizens in terms of service quality and distinction.
Al-Kharabsheh expressed the authority's aspiration to expand the project to reach 1000 buses in the future, indicating that the third phase will target the development of transport services within the provinces and focus on the main lines, and this will be after completing the executive procedures of the second phase.
The Council of Ministers, in its session held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, approved the implementation of the second phase of the regular public transport development project between the provinces and the capital Amman.
