Approval of Solutions Related to Lands Hosting Camps Owned by Citizens

Khaberni - The Cabinet decided, in its session held on Sunday chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, to approve solutions related to lands hosting camps, which are owned by citizens, to ensure the end of existing judicial disputes, alleviate the financial burdens on the treasury, based on the principle of fair compensation.

The Cabinet also approved solutions similar to those previously adopted for Al-Talbiyah camp in the Giza district, to end existing judicial disputes, based on the principle of fair compensation, and according to the owners' wishes.

According to the decision, the lands owned by the citizens where camps are located in the capital, Zarqa, and Madaba provinces will be exchanged with lands owned by the treasury within these province borders, equating to their value.

The exchange will also include lands owned by citizens where camps are located in Irbid, Balqa, and Jerash provinces, with treasury lands outside their borders, equating to the same value.

According to the decision, areas of land or any parts thereof owned by the treasury and encroached upon, located outside the boundaries of Hattin camp, will be incorporated within the camp's boundaries and entrusted to the Department of Palestinian Affairs.

The Cabinet tasked the Land and Survey Department with preparing a detailed study on the exchange of treasury lands and their estimated values, and the Department of Palestinian Affairs with forming a specialized committee to negotiate directly with the landowners, and to enter into lease agreements with them as a temporary solution until the necessary studies are completed, until each owner in the exchange receives a piece of land or share equating to the value of their property, based on the principle of fair compensation, with the lands hosting the camps reverting to the state treasury.

The Prime Minister had decided last November to form a committee chaired by the General Manager of the Public Housing and Urban Development Corporation to study the issue of utilizing treasury lands, especially those in provinces hosting camps on lands owned by citizens, for the purpose of exchanging lands hosting camps with treasury lands (similar to Al-Talbiyah camp) and providing annual financial allocations for developing projects for the Public Housing and Urban Development Corporation on them.
