Industry and Trade Deal with 16 National Export Defense Cases Last Year

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yenal Barmawi, stated that the ministry last year dealt with 16 cases regarding Jordanian exports, including issues of safeguard measures and anti-dumping, in the context of protecting national products from harmful and unfair trade practices in foreign markets.

Barmawi added that the ministry is keen on protecting the national industry and enhancing its competitiveness through dealing with a number of cases and technical and procedural studies that have a direct impact on the industrial sector, represented by imposing safeguard measures on a safety product and protecting national products, in addition to beginning an investigation into an anti-dumping case of solar panel imports to the kingdom.

He pointed out that the ministry completed 24 specialized studies for complaints submitted by the industrial sector, through which the potential impact of imports on the local industry was assessed, and appropriate actions were taken in accordance with national legislation and relevant international agreements, in addition to studying 267 applications for import licenses, within mechanisms to regulate imports and achieve a balance between protecting national production and meeting local market needs.

He mentioned that the Directorate of National Production Protection conducted an extensive awareness and guidance campaign targeting the industrial sector, during which approximately (40) thousand text messages were sent, aiming to raise awareness of the legislation and measures related to protecting national production, and safeguard and anti-dumping measures.

Barmawi confirmed that these efforts are part of the ministry’s vision aimed at enhancing a fair and competitive industrial environment, supporting national exports, and protecting industrial investments in the kingdom.

The Directorate of National Production Protection in the ministry works on implementing these agreements through Jordanian laws and legislation, which allows providing protection and assistance to the local industry and local producers suffering from harm due to harmful or unfair trade practices, which are represented in the increasing imports of a particular product to the kingdom or importing it at dumping or subsidized prices.
