Jordan Sales tax on postal parcels comes into effect

Khaberni - On Sunday, the application of a sales tax rate of 16% on the contents of postal parcels with a customs value not exceeding 200 dinars begins.

According to the government, the decision aims to support the stimulation of spending and local consumption instead of foreign, achieving equality and justice among local traders; which contributes to stimulating local commercial activity and activating the local market.

The Cabinet had decided in November 2025 to approve a customs duty of zero and apply a sales tax rate of 16% on the contents of postal parcels with a customs value not exceeding 200 dinars.

The General Director of Jordan Customs, Customs Major General Ahmad Al-Akhalik, previously stated that small postal parcels of 200 dinars or less constitute two-thirds of the volume of imports through e-commerce coming to Jordan, confirming that postal parcels exceeding 200 dinars kept the same customs duties as they are regulated by customs declarations and are subject to the current tariff rates and nothing has changed on them.

The clothing and footwear sector across Jordan includes more than 11,000 traders and employs about 60,000 workers, the majority of whom are Jordanians.
