After years of speculation Samsung is set to launch augmented reality glasses

Khaberni - Samsung has officially announced its plans to launch smart augmented reality glasses in 2026, as a new step towards expanding the ecosystem of wearable devices and delivering advanced technology experiences powered by artificial intelligence.

This step moves the project from the realm of rumors to an official launch schedule announced by the company during its latest financial results disclosure.

Official announcement
Samsung’s Vice President of Mobile Experience, Solj Cho, stated that the company plans to introduce augmented reality glasses this year, also promising artificial intelligence experiences.

This announcement is Samsung's first direct temporal confirmation of the launch date of the glasses after years of speculation and leaks.

Before this confirmation, Samsung's smart glasses were linked to various projects, including working in partnership with Google to develop the "Android XR" system for wearable devices operating with augmented and virtual reality.

Expectations
Previous reports have indicated that the glasses will not only display information, but are also likely to support artificial intelligence features such as a 12-megapixel camera with autofocus, a "Qualcomm AR1" processing chip specialized in artificial intelligence tasks, and a "155mAh" battery sufficient for light to medium daily use.

The glasses will operate on the "Android XR" system, which is part of the next generation of Android specifically designed for embedded devices and augmented reality; this will make them a part of a complementary ecosystem with other Samsung devices like phones and smartwatches.

Two possible versions
Some reports suggest that Samsung may launch two versions of the glasses, a basic version that offers auditory and visual experiences without an integrated screen, and another version that features information display within the lens; making them similar to products like "Ray‑Ban Meta".

This strategy may help Samsung compete with major companies in the market of smart glasses, which also sees entries from companies like Google, Meta, and Apple.

Smart glasses race
Samsung's announcement shows that it is aiming to shift from traditional smartphones to an integrated smart device that can be worn, based on artificial intelligence in everyday life.

While the company has yet to reveal the exact launch date or prices, experts expect that the glasses will first be unveiled for use in the second half of 2026.

With this announcement, Samsung officially enters the race for wearable smart glasses as part of a new wave of digital devices promising more interactive experiences and greater integration with the real and AI-enhanced world.
