Iran denies assassination of naval commander

Khaberni - The Iranian authorities denied the assassination of a commander in the naval forces of the Revolutionary Guards in a gas explosion in an 8-storey residential building on Al-Moallem Street in the city of Bandar Abbas, in the south of the country, which resulted in the death of 4 people, according to what was reported by Tasnim News Agency, today (Saturday).

Circulating video clips showed part of the building's facade collapsing and turning into debris that covered several cars parked near the area. The explosion destroyed two floors of the building, and damaged several cars and one shop. Rescue and civil defense teams are conducting relief operations.

The city of Bandar Abbas is located in southern Iran at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, which is the maritime passage through which about 20% of the world's oil passes.

It includes two major ports: the port of Bandar Abbas, which is the largest seaport in Iran, and Shahid Rajaee port.

The United States warned yesterday (Friday), the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that it "will not accept unsafe actions" in the Strait of Hormuz, after Tehran announced a two-day live ammunition naval exercise there.

The US Central Command in the Middle East reported that the US military will not tolerate "unsafe" maneuvers such as flying over American warships, including the approach of fast Iranian boats on a collision course with American ships.

It warned that "any unsafe and unprofessional behavior near US forces, regional partners, or commercial ships increases the risk of collision and escalation and destabilizes security."
