Khaberni - A minor domestic dispute in Turkey turned into a shocking murder crime, after a husband decided to end his wife's life because she entered the house with her shoes on.
The Turkish public prosecutor's office unveiled horrifying details of a murder that occurred in Izmir, western Turkey, after an elderly man shot his wife following a domestic dispute over her entering the apartment wearing her shoes, contrary to what the family was accustomed to.
According to the indictment, the husband confessed to committing the crime in a fit of anger after he had finished cleaning the house, only for his wife to return from outside and enter with her shoes on, which he viewed as a disregard for his efforts, leading to a verbal altercation that tragically escalated.
The investigations clarified that the crime took place last October, when the husband shot his wife in the head while she was lying in bed, leading to her immediate death, despite her long struggle with cancer that had affected her spinal column for seven years.
The accused, named Rustem Tekir, is 71 years old, while his wife Ezadiya had returned from the hospital on the day of the incident to receive treatment. The husband claimed in his statement that he attempted suicide after committing the crime by shooting himself, but the gun failed to fire.
After committing the crime, the husband immediately called the emergency services confessing to what he had done, leading to the prompt arrival of the ambulance and police to the scene, where they arrested him and began formal investigations.
The incident caused widespread anger in Turkey, especially following statements from the victim’s children, who confirmed that their mother's death was the culmination of years of domestic violence she had endured, amidst her health struggle.
The husband currently faces the possibility of being sentenced to life imprisonment, in a case that has reopened the issue of domestic violence and the murder of women within Turkish society.
