Khaberni - The "Tawasol" e-participation portal published the pre-marital medical examination system for the year 2026, which aims to enhance the preventive approach in public health and reduce the spread of certain genetic diseases, most notably Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia.
According to the portal's website, the modification of the system is part of efforts to develop the pre-marital medical examination system and activate the role of genetic counseling centers, due to their importance in reducing the likelihood of genetic diseases.
The website indicated that the consultation period for the system extends from February 1 to February 19, 2026, in preparation for its final approval.
The amended system aims to regulate and standardize the mechanism of pre-marital medical examination and enhance preventive measures to reduce the spread of genetic diseases, in addition to organizing the examination procedures and referring incompatible cases to specialized counseling centers.
The system also grants the Minister of Health the authority to determine the service fee for the medical examination, and the relevant authority must comply with requiring both parties to undergo the medical examination at an accredited lab and to visit the health center to issue the necessary form to complete the marriage contract.
The system emphasizes the confidentiality of the medical examination procedures and subjects any violation of its provisions to the penalties stipulated in the public health law. It also repeals the pre-marital medical examination system number (83) for the year 2015, while maintaining the instructions issued under it until they are replaced according to the provisions of the new system.
