Trump warns Britain against boosting ties with China

Khaberni - American President Donald Trump warned Britain against entering into trade relations with Beijing, at a time when Prime Minister Keir Starmer was praising the economic benefits of resetting relations with China during his visit.

While Western leaders are confused by Trump’s unpredictable actions, Starmer was the latest leader to head to China.

In talks that lasted 3 hours with President Xi Jinping on Thursday, the British leader called for a "more sophisticated relationship" with improved market access, reduced tariffs, and investment agreements.

But in Washington, Trump said, "Well, it’s very dangerous for them to do that." He did not provide further details.

Trump, who plans to travel to China in April, threatened last week to impose tariffs on Canada after Prime Minister Mark Carney signed economic agreements with Beijing during a visit to the Asian country.

A spokesperson for Downing Street and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to requests for comment.
